As a result of the 2005 Scottish Licensing Act, Edinburgh City Council have the following alcohol licence application policy. Venues and catering companies across Edinburgh and the Lothians are now required to give a minimum of 28 working days notice for any alcohol licence application.

This change effects events held in some University of Edinburgh venues.  Any alcohol you would like served at events or delivered with outside catering orders must be requested at least 28 working days prior to your event.

University venues that hold a permanent license are not affected by this change; these include John McIntyre Conference Centre, South Hall and Kirkland, and Salisbury Green Hotel.

If you are unable to give 28 days notice and decide to purchase your own alcohol or have been gifted drinks for your event, Edinburgh First will assist by taking receipt of your drinks, storing and chilling them as appropriate and provide the glassware and serving staff to ensure your event runs smoothly. The corkage charge for this service is £10 per bottle of table wine; £15 per bottle of sparkling wine and champagne; £35 per bottle of spirits; £2.50 per 330ml bottle of beer and £3.00 for a 500ml bottle of beer.

This change does not affect events without alcohol; we are still more than happy to process these bookings with shorter lead times as normal.
