Edinburgh First, the capital’s leading one-stop-shop for all event, accommodation and catering needs has announced plans for two new events spaces named 50 George Square and David Hume Tower. The venues will boost Edinburgh First’s extensive conference and events portfolio and will be available for bookings from summer 2015.
The conference and meetings facilities are located in the city centre, situated in the heart of the University of Edinburgh’s estate in George Square.
50 George Square will offer a state-of-the art lecture theatre, seating for up to 275 delegates, plus seminar rooms, breakout rooms, and exhibition spaces; making it suitable for a host of conferences, lectures, annual general meetings, training days, seminars, presentations, workshops and exhibitions.
Adjoining 50 George Square is David Hume Tower featuring a café on the basement floor. The café is designed to host informal, post-meeting discussions and can also hold smaller meetings in five seminar rooms containing state-of-the-art audio visual equipment and can accommodate a total of 285 delegates. A focal point of the café will be the Garden Room that will be a space for delegates to relax and enjoy their surroundings.
Richard Kington, Director of Accommodation Services, commented:
“We are very pleased to be able to expand our already first-class conference and events offering within the University of Edinburgh. It’s great to have the opportunity to expand our portfolio so that we have a venue to suit any conference or event in Edinburgh.
“2014 is such an important year for Edinburgh and Scotland as a whole, we need to ensure we have the best facilities to entice visitors to the capital in the wake of the country being showcased to the world.”
Construction on the new conference venues began in 2012 and was completed in June 2014, with bookings being taking for June 2015 onwards following the end of the 2014/15 term at the University of Edinburgh.
