Reception at South Hall
Some lovely comments from the bride Gwen, on the steps taken to organise her dream wedding to Jonny and their beautiful reception. The gallery below shows the bespoke touches Gwen made at South Hall, Pollock Halls to ensure her day was special.
Planning the wedding
We were both students at The University of Edinburgh and were delighted to know that the venue was available for our Christmas wedding. The planning process was great and communication with the wedding planner couldn't have been better - every stage of the process was straightforward thanks to Edinburgh First. We thoroughly enjoyed trying out different food and deciding what our guests would have to eat for the wedding breakfast. We visited the venue on numerous occasions and each time were able to talk through different aspects of the wedding and give it our own personal touch.
Leading up to the day
Leading up to the wedding, communication was excellent and the service we received was outstanding. Dietary requirements, schedules, table plans, number changes and decoration plans were exchanged and altered without any problems. The day was very well planned. We created our own menu and table plan designs and were able to drop these off with our personalised decorations days before the wedding. We sent pictures and described how we wanted everything set up and when we visited on the eve of our big day everything was perfect. We were so thankful for all the help from Edinburgh First to set things up!
The wedding day itself
Having visited the day before and reassured that everything would go smoothly was a great relief. Our friends were even able to go in the morning to hang fairy lights and bunting which was really useful.
We were married in St Stephen's Comely Bank Church and proceeded to South Hall where we had a beautiful room provided to take photos; we ended up not needing it as the weather was great! When we arrived, the atmosphere was lovely as we could see all our family, friends and their children having a great time with the toys we had provided and that the South Hall staff had set out.
South Hall itself was beautiful - all our decorations were set up and the baker and florist had access in the morning to set the table centres and cake up beautifully. The Christmas tree, cane favours and fairy lights really made the room feel very festive!
The Wedding Breakfast was delicious, all our guest's needs were met and they loved the great service and excellent food - especially the scrumptious lamb main course! After the meal our tables were moved to prepare for the evening's dancing and entertainment - this was done so discreetly and smoothly no one noticed it was happening.
Our evening guests enjoyed the ceilidh dancing, food, bar and lively atmosphere. We had over 200 people at the venue and it was perfect. Everyone loved the bacon rolls, tea and coffee served in the evening to fuel us through the night.
Planning and preparing our wedding was so enjoyable thanks to Edinburgh First and their staff. We highly recommend South Hall to anyone who is looking for a wedding venue.
